Zeta Tau Alpha Convention 2010

I recently got back from New Orleans, Louisiana, home of the Super bowl champions, the New Orleans Saints, “Who Dat?” I was there for 6 days and 5 nights for this year’s Zeta Tau Alpha Convention 2010. This was my first convention that I was able to attend and I am so lucky to have ‘Experienced the Sisterhood.’ I was required to go because this year I will be representing ZTA as a TLC. Current TLCs have to help at convention with any work that needs to be done in order for it to run smoothly. We moved boxes, helped put together centerpieces, organized chapter flags for processional and so many more tasks were given to us. Many of the tasks weren’t always pleasant but I was just happy to be there. Many of you may not understand what my job title is, how I got it or how important a ZTA, TLC really is. I will start from the very beginning of this process.

Earlier this year I interviewed with ZTA’s one and only, Deb Ensor to be a Traveling Leadership Consultant for ZTA. When I was offered the job on the spot, I knew that my future would drastically change. As a leadership consultant, one is required to travel around the country to different universities and visit the ZTA chapters there. We will then assist with recruitment, extension, colonizing, or any other areas that need to be looked into. Basically, we have to be ready for anything that is thrown to us. I am definitely up for the challenge. Many graduating Zeta’s apply for this job for this opportunity and only 15 were chosen. There are 2 consultants that will travel a second year and 1 previous consultant who has a new title as Leadership Development Specialist. This makes a total of 18 TLCs, which makes this an all time record number of consultants.

At this year’s convention, all of the consultants met for the first time. We all got a long really well and it was obvious that we were all leaders in our chapters. Leaving one another wasn’t easy, it was pretty clear that we would miss each other while we were back in our hometowns for the next 10 days as we prepared for training. As I sit here today writing this, I can’t help but wish that the days went by quicker. July 23rd, we will all be reunited in Indianapolis, Indiana, where training will be held for 2 weeks. This is where our International Office is located. During our time in training, we will learn all that we need to know about ZTA.

Follow me throughout my journey as a Traveling Leadership Consultant for ZTA. I will try to update you all as I go from university to university. I am happy to be able to share my travels with all my friends and family. I’m ready for this new chapter in life to begin….
